Description
The 1/4 ounce Belga gold coin is Belgium's investment gold coin: one quarter of a troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, equivalent to 7.78 g of fine gold. Its price follows the gold market.
Launched in 2026 by the Royal Mint of Belgium, it allows for gold investment in small quantities via an official Belgian coin made of 24-karat gold. The quarter-ounce is also a practical format for reselling a portion of one's gold without disposing of the entire holding.

History of the gold Belga
The gold Belga was unveiled in March 2026 by the Royal Mint of Belgium as the country's first official investment gold coin. It exists in two formats: 1 ounce, with a face value of 300 euros, and 1/4 ounce, with a face value of 75 euros. The coins are minted in Utrecht by the Royal Dutch Mint under license from the Royal Mint of Belgium.
Its name recalls the "belga," a monetary unit created in 1926 during the stabilization of the Belgian franc and abandoned in 1946. The design is the work of Iris Bruijns of the Royal Mint of Belgium. As with any investment coin, it is the weight of fine gold that determines its value, not the design.
How to recognize a gold Belga coin?
The obverse features a stylized Art Nouveau-inspired iris, the symbol of the Brussels-Capital Region. The reverse shows a modern, simplified version of the Belgian lion on a shield, with the face value and the country's name in the three national languages. The fields feature fine raised vertical lines, which serve as a security element, as well as the marks of the two mints.
Inspection focuses on weight (7.78 g), dimensions, and the sharpness of the engraving. As pure gold is soft, light handling marks are common and do not affect its investment value. Our experts perform these checks on every coin before it is offered for sale.
Why invest in the 1/4 oz Belga?
- 999.9 pure gold: 24 karat, no alloy.
- An official Belgian coin: issued by the Royal Mint of Belgium, with a face value in euros.
- A fractional format: 7.78 g of fine gold, for investing and reselling in small quantities.
- Value backed by gold: its price tracks the gold spot price, like major investment coins.
A "marketable" verified 1/4 oz Belga, ready for resale
The 1/4 oz Belga is sold for the gold it contains. Its price follows the gold market, to which an investment premium is added. As investment gold, it is exempt from VAT in Belgium.
- "Marketable" verified: each coin is verified by our experts (authenticity, weight, fineness). It has no defects that would prevent its resale as investment gold: no holes, solder, traces of jewelry mounts, dents, or excessive wear.
- Ready for resale: when you decide to sell, it is accepted as investment gold based on its fine gold weight. We guarantee its buyback at any time.
Year and condition of your 1/4 oz Belga
This product is sold as "various years": the vintage varies from one coin to another and cannot be selected. These are circulated coins that have already had one or more owners: light signs of wear or patina are normal and do not affect their investment value, which is calculated based on their fine gold weight. Non-contractual photo.
How to store your Belga coins?
To ensure a gold coin retains its full resale value, a few simple precautions are sufficient:
- handle it by the edge, ideally using cotton gloves;
- never clean it: cleaning products and scrubbing scratch gold and can complicate resale;
- store it in a capsule or individual case, protected from humidity and impacts;
- keep your purchase invoice, as it is useful at the time of resale.
